Unforgetable Nargis ------ Sanjog Waltar




Nargis Dutt, born Fatima Rashid but known by her screen name, Nargis, was an film actress. She is widely regarded as one of the greatest actresses in the history of Hindi cinema.  Born 01 June 1929 )She made her screen debut as a child in Talash-E-Haq in 1935, but her acting career began in 1942 with Tamanna. During a career that spanned from the 1940s to the 60s, Nargis appeared in numerous commercially successful as well as critically appreciated films, many of which featured her alongside actor and filmmaker Raj Kapoor.One of her best-known roles was that of Radha in the Academy Award-nominated Mother India (1957), a performance that won her Best Actress trophy at the Filmfare Awards. In 1958, Nargis married her Mother India co-star, actor Sunil Dutt, and left the film industry. She would appear infrequently in films during the 60s. Some of her films of this period include the drama Raat Aur Din (1967), for which she got the inaugural National Film Award for Best Actress.Along with her husband, Nargis formed the Ajanta Arts Cultural Troupe, which roped in several leading actors and singers of the time and held stage shows at border areas.In early 1970s, she became the first patron of Spastics Society of India, and her subsequent work with the organisation brought her recognition as a social worker, and later a Rajya Sabha nomination in 1980.Nargis died in 1981 of pancreatic cancer, a few days before her son Sanjay Dutt made his film debut in Bollywood. In 1982, the Nargis Dutt Memorial Cancer Foundation was established in her memory. The award for best feature film on national integration in the annual National Film Awards ceremony is called the Nargis Dutt Award in her honourNargis’ father was Uttamchand Mohanchand alias Mohan Babu, a wealthy Punjabi Brahmin (Mohyal) from Rawalpindi (Now In Pakistan). Her mother was Jaddanbai, a Punjabi Muslim. Her family had migrated to Allahabad from Punjab. She was a Hindustani classical music singer and courtesan in Allahabad. She introduced her into the movie culture unfolding in India at the time. Her only brother, Anwar Hussain (1928-1988), also became a film actor. Anwar Hussain was born to Jaddanbai and a different husband, and was raised in Muslim tradition like his mother.Fatima was recruited to the cinema at an early age. She made her first film appearance in the 1935 Talashe Haq when she was six years old, credited as “Baby Nargis”. is a Persian word meaning Narcissus, daffodil flower. She was subsequently credited as Nargis in all of her films.Nargis appeared in numerous movies after her film debut; she won lasting fame for her later, adult, roles, starting with at the age of 14, in Mehboob Khan’s Taqdeer in 1943 opposite, Motilal. She starred in many popular Hindi movies of the late 1940s and 1950s such as Barsaat (1949), Andaz (1949), Awaara (1951), Deedar (1951), Shree 420 (1955), and Chori Chori (1956). In most of her films she starred alongside Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar.Her most famous role came in Mehboob Khan’s Oscar-nominated rural drama Mother India in 1957. She won the Filmfare Best Actress Award for her performance. After her marriage to Sunil Dutt in 1958, Nargis gave up her film career after her last few film releases to settle down with her family. She made her last film appearance in the 1967 film Raat Aur Din for which she won a National Film Award for Best Actress, the first actress to win in this category. She also received a Filmfare Best Actress Award Nomination for this film.In 2011, Rediff.com listed her as the greatest actress of all time, noting, “An actress with range, style, grace and an incredibly warm screen presence, Nargis is truly a leading lady to celebrate.”According to M.L. Dhawan from The Tribune, “In almost all her films Nargis created a woman who could be desired and deified. The charisma of Nargis’s screen image lay in that it oscillated between the simple and the chic with equal ease.”Nargis married actor Sunil Dutt (himself a Mohyal from Jhelum, British India). Reportedly, Dutt had saved her life from a fire accident on the sets of Mother India.The couple married on 11 March 1958 and had three children together: Sanjay, Namrata, and Priya. Sanjay Dutt went on to become a very successful film actor. Namrata married actor Kumar Gaurav, son of veteran actor Rajendra Kumar who had appeared alongside both Nargis and Sunil Dutt in Mother India. Priya became a politician, and since 2005 has been a Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha).Along with her husband, Nargis formed the Ajanta Arts Cultural Troupe, which roped in several leading actors and singers of the time, and performed at remote frontiers to entertain the Indian soldiers; it was the first troupe to perform at Dhaka, after the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 and the formation of Bangladesh. Later, Nargis worked for the cause of spastic children. She became the first patron of The Spastics Society of India. Her charitable work for the organisation got her recognition as a social worker.Nargis worked with the actor Raj Kapoor in several films. She also did many films with R. K. Films – a production house of Raj Kapoor. It is said that the both in a romantic relationship. But after her marriage, she has never kept a close relationship with him till her death.Nargis was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and underwent treatment for the disease at Memorial Sloan–Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Upon her return to India, her condition deteriorated, and she was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. She sank into a coma on 2 May 1981 and died on 3 May 1981. Her absence at the premiere of her son’s debut film Rocky on 7 May 1981, where one seat was kept vacant for her, was a nationally famous event.
Nargis is buried at Badakabarastan in Marine Lines, Mumbai. A street in Bandra, Mumbai was renamed Nargis Dutt Road in her memory after her death.1957 – Filmfare Best Actress Award for Mother India
1958 – She was the first film actress to conferred by the Government of India with the Padma Shri title, the fourth highest civilian award.1968 – National Film Award for Best Actress for Raat Aur Din.1969 – Nominated, Filmfare Best Actress Award for Raat Aur Din.She was also nominated to the Rajya Sabha (Upper house of Indian Parliament) (1980–81), but fell ill and died during her tenure.The National Film Awards honored Dutt by instituting the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration upon her achievement in Bollywood.
On 8 January 2001, Nargis Dutt was honoured with the “Best Artists of the Millennium” award by Hero Honda and film magazine Stardust along with actor Amitabh Bachan..

वहीदा रहमान (जन्म: 14 मई, 1936 ) हिन्दी फ़िल्मों की एक अभिनेत्री हैं। 



वहीदा रहमान भारतीय सिनेमा जगत में ऐसी कम ही कलाकार हैं जो हर रोल में फिट बैठ जाते है. चाहे वह 18 या 19 साल की किसी जवां लड़की का रोल हो या बाद में मां का रोल सभी में उनका अभिनय जबरदस्त ही रहता है. बॉलिवुड की यह सबसे बड़ी खासियत भी है कि यहां प्रतिभा की कमी नहीं है और ऐसी ही एक प्रतिभा हैं वहीदा रहमान . प्यासा, सीआईडी , कागज के फूल जैसी फिल्मों में अभिनय करने वाली वहीदा रहमान आज के दशक में भी दिल्ली 6 जैसी फिल्मों में अपनी उपस्थिति दर्शाने में सफल रही हैं. वहीदा रहमान का जन्म 14 मई, 1936 को तमिलनाडु के एक परंपरावादी मुस्लिम परिवार में हुआ था. बचपन से वहीदा डॉक्टर बनना चाहती थी लेकिन उनका भाग्य उन्हें सिनेमा में खींच लाया. मुंबई में आने के बाद वहीदा रहमान और उनकी बहन ने भरतनाट्यम की शिक्षा ली.फिल्मी कैरियर की शुरुआत उन्होंने 1955 में दो तेलुगू फिल्मों के द्वारा की और दोनों ही हिट रहीं जिसका फायदा उन्हें गुरुदत्त की फिल्म “सीआईडी” में खलनायिका के रोल के रुप में मिला. फिल्म में वहीदा रहमान के अभिनय की सबने सराहना की और गुरुदत्त तो उनके कायल ही हो गए.इसके बाद गुरुदत्त ने वहीदा के साथ कई फिल्में की जिनमें प्यासा सबसे चर्चित फिल्म रही है. फिल्म प्यासा से ही गुरु दत्त और वहीदा का विफल प्रेम प्रसंग आरंभ हुआ. गुरुदत्त एवं वहीदा रहमान अभिनीत फिल्म कागज के फूल (1959) की असफल प्रेम कथा उन दोनों की स्वयं के जीवन पर आधारित थी. दोनों ही कलाकारों ने फिल्म चौदहवीं का चाँद (1960) और साहिब बीबी और गुलाम (1962) में साथ साथ काम किया.हालांकि कुछ समय बाद गुरुदत्त और वहीदा अलग हो गए. 10 अक्टूबर, 1964 को गुरुदत्त ने कथित रुप से आत्महत्या कर ली थी जिसके बाद वहीदा अकेली हो गई, लेकिन फिर भी उन्होंने कैरियर से मुंह नहीं मोड़ा और 1965 में गाइड के लिए उन्हें फिल्मफेयर अवार्ड का पुरस्कार मिला. 1968 में आई नीलकमल के बाद एक बार फिर से वहीदा रहमान का कैरियर आसमान की बुलंदियों पर चढ़ने लगा. साल 1974 में उनके साथ काम करने वाले अभिनेता कमलजीत ने उनसे शादी का प्रस्ताव रखा जिसे वहीदा रहामान ने सहर्ष स्वीकार कर लिया और शादी के बंधन में बंध गई. साल 1991 में फिल्म लम्हे के बाद उन्होंने फिल्मों में काम करने से ब्रेक ले लिया और घर बसाने की तरफ ज्यादा ध्यान देने लगी.साल 2000 उनके जिंदगी में एक और धक्के के रुप में आया जब उनके पति की आकस्मिक मृत्यु हो गई पर वहीदा ने यहां भी अपनी इच्छाशक्ति का प्रदर्शन करते हुए दुबारा फिल्मों में काम करने का निर्णय लिया और वाटर, रंग दे बसंती और दिल्ली 6 जैसी फिल्मों में काम किया.अभिनय के क्षेत्र में बेमिसाल प्रदर्शन के लिए उन्हें साल 1972 में पद्म श्री और साल 2011 में पद्म विभूषण पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया. इसके साथ वहीदा रहमान को दो बार बेस्ट एक्ट्रेस का फिल्मफेयर अवार्ड भी मिल चुका है.आज भी वहीदा रहमान फिल्मों में सक्रिय हैं और भारतीय सिनेमा के स्वर्ण काल की याद दिलाती हैं.

Agency,Mumbai.Balraj Sahni,born 1 May 1913 Yudhishthir Sahni, was a noted film and stage actor, who is best known for Dharti Ke Lal (1946), Do Bigha Zameen (1953), Kabuliwala (1961) and Garam Hawa (1973).He came from Bhera, now in Punjab, Pakistan, and was the brother of Bhisham Sahni, noted Hindi writer, playwright, and actor.
Balraj Sahni went from his native Rawalpindi to study at Lahore University. He completed his Master’s degree in English Literature from Lahore and then went back to Rawalpindi and joined his family business. He also held a Bachelor’s degree in Hindi, followed by a Masters in English from Punjab University. Soon after, he married Damayanti Sahni.In the late 1930s, Sahni and his wife left Rawalpindi to join Tagore’s Visva-Bharati University in Shantiniketan in Bengal as an English and Hindi teacher. It is here that their son, Parikshit Sahni was born, when his wife Damayanti was doing her Bachelor’s degree. He also went to work with Mahatma Gandhi for a year in 1938. The next year, Sahni, with Gandhi’s blessings, went to England to join the BBC-London’s Hindi service as a radio announcer. He returned to India in 1943.Balraj Sahni was always interested in acting, and started his acting career with the plays of the Indian People’s Theatre Association (IPTA).He started his film career in Mumbai with the film Insaaf (1946), followed by Dharti Ke Lal directed by KA Abbas in 1946, Door Chalein in 1946, and other films. But it was in 1953, with Bimal Roy’s classic Do Bigha Zameen, that his true forte as an actor was first recognised. The film won the international prize at the Cannes Film Festival.Balraj Sahni’s wife Damayanti died at a young age in 1947, who was the heroine of his film, Gudiya (1947) and two years later he married his first cousin, Santosh Chandhok, later known as an author and television writer.Balraj Sahni’s acting was very well liked and appreciated in all his films. He acted opposite top heroines like Padmini, Nutan, Meena Kumari, Vyjayantimala, and Nargis in films like Bindya (1960)Seema (1955), Sone Ki Chidiya (1958), Sutta Bazaar (1959), Bhabhi Ki Chudiyaan (1961), Kathputli (1957), Lajwanti (1958) & Ghar Sansaar (1958). However, he is perhaps best remembered by the current generation for the picturisation of the legendary song Ae Meri Zohra Jabeen from the movie Waqt (1965) on him. Sahni appeared opposite Achala Sachdev in the number.He also starred in the classic Punjabi film Nanak Dukhiya Sub Sansar (1970) as well as the critically acclaimed Satluj de kande.His performance as the angst ridden but stoical Muslim man who refuses to go to Pakistan during partition in his last film Garam Hawa has often been called his best performance by critics. Balraj, however, could not see the completed film himself to rate his own performance, as he died just the next day after he finished dubbing for Garm Hava. The last lines he recorded for the film, and hence his last recorded lines are, Hindi:- “Insaan Kab Tak Akela Jee Sakta Hai?” which can be translated in English as:- “How long can a man live alone?”Balraj Sahni was a gifted writer; his early writings were in English, though later in life he switched to Punjabi, and became a writer of repute in Punjabi literature. In 1960, after a visit to Pakistan, he wrote Mera Pakistani Safar. His book Mera Rusi Safarnama, which he had written after a tour of the erstwhile Soviet Union in 1969, earned him the ‘Soviet Land Nehru Award’. He contributed many poems and short stories in magazines and also penned his autobiography, Meri Filmi Aatmakatha. Sahni was an extremely well-read and politically conscious person.He and P K Vasudevan Nair worked on the idea of All India Youth Federation with firebrand Delhi communist, Comrade Guru Radha Kishan to organise the first national conference of AIYF in Delhi. Their wholehearted efforts were visible as more than 250 delegates and observers representing several youth organisations of various states of India attended this session. Balraj Sahni was elected as the first president of All India Youth Federation, the youth wing of Communist Party of India. The organisation was a huge success and strong presence of the organisation was noticed by other political groups and the senior communist leaders everywhere.Balraj Sahni also dabbled in screenwriting; he wrote the 1951 movie Baazi which starred Dev Anand and was directed by Guru Dutt. He was also a recipient of the Padma Shri Award (1969). Balraj Sahni also wrote in Punjabi and contributed to the Punjabi magazine Preetlari. Very few people know about his love for the books, In 1950s he was first to inaugurate the Library and study centre for underprivileged class in Delhi.Balraj Sahni was undoubtedly one of the greatest actors ever to come on the Indian screen: a highly natural actor who reminded the audience of the actors like Motilal because of his simple persona and a sophisticated style of acting. He was looked up to as a role model as he was never involved in any scandal. His acting in Do Bigha Zameen and Garam Hawa were the highlights of his career. He believed in what is known as Neo-Realistic cinema.Balraj’s brother Bhisham Sahni was a well-known writer who wrote the book Tamas. His son Parikshit Sahni is also an actor. Balraj Sahni died on 13 April 1973, of a massive cardiac arrest, less than a month before his 60th birthday. He had been depressed for some time by the untimely death of his young daughter, Shabnam. Noted writer and editor of Hindi weekly Dharmyug Satyakam Vidyalankar was married to Balraj’s sister.’Punjabi Kala Kender’, founded in 1973 at Mumbai by Balraj Sahni, gives away the annual Balraj Sahni Award’, and also the ‘All India Artists’ Association’.

Usha Kiran (22 April 1929 – 9 March 2000) was a Hindi and Marathi film actress. In a career spanning over four decades she acted in over 50 Hindi and Marathi films, notably Daag Patita Baadbaan , Chupke Chupke , Mili and Bawarchi . She was also the Sheriff of Mumbai during 1996–97.She began her acting career on stage with M. G. Rangnekar's Marathi play Ashirwad. She enter Hindi film industry with a small role in Uday Shankar's dance-drama film, Kalpana (1948). She went on to act in numerous popular Hindi films are Nazrana (1961), Daag (1952), and Baadbaan (1954), for which she won the very first Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1955 Kabuliwala (1961), Patita (1953), Mili, Bawarchi (1972) and Chupke Chupke (1975).Her famous Marathi films include, "Shikleli Bayko," "Kanyadaan” (for which she received the Maharashtra Government’s award for best actress) "Gariba Gharchi Lek," and "Kanchanganga" .She starred opposite Hindi film actors like Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand, Ashok Kumar, Dilip Kumar, Rajendra Kumar, Rajesh Khanna, Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan.She died in Nashik at the age of 70.
She was married to Dr. Manohar Kher. Her son Adwait Kher was a former model, now settled in Nashik with his wife Uttara Mhatre Kher, a Miss World representative after the Femina Miss India 1982, and two daughter, Saunskruti Kher and Saiyami Kher.Her daughter, Tanvi Azmi is a well known television and film actress, married to cinematographer, Baba Azmi, brother of Shabana Azmi, thus connected with the Akhtar-Azmi film family.

Suchitra Sen or Rama Dasgupta (About this sound listen 6 April 1931 – 17 January 2014), was an Indian actress who acted in several Bengali films that mainly concentrated in the regions of Bengal and Bangladesh. In particular, the movies in which she paired opposite another legend in Bengali films, Uttam Kumar, became classics in the history of Bengali cinema.
She is the first Bengali actress to be awarded at an international film festival (Best Actress award for Saat Paake Bandha in the 1963 Moscow film festival). She was awarded the Padma Shri in 1972 by Government of India. Notably, she allegedly refused the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2005, preferring to stay out of the public eye. In 2012, Sen was conferred West Bengal government`s highest award Banga Bibhushan

मीना कुमारी की पुण्यतिथि (31 मार्च) पर खिराज़े अकीदत ------ ध्रुव गुप्त

'ट्रेजेडी क्वीन' के नाम से मशहूर हिंदी और उर्दू सिनेमा की भावप्रवण अभिनेत्री और उर्दू की संवेदनशील शायरा मीना कुमारी उर्फ़ माहज़बीं बानो रूपहले परदे पर अपने लाज़वाब अभिनय के अलावा अपनी बिखरी और बेतरतीब निज़ी ज़िन्दगी के लिए भी जानी जाती है। भारतीय स्त्री के जीवन के दर्द को रूपहले परदे पर साकार करते-करते कब वह ख़ुद दर्द की मुकम्मल तस्वीर बन गई, इसका पता शायद उन्हें भी न चला होगा। भूमिकाओं में विविधता के अभाव के बावज़ूद उनकी खास अभिनय-शैली और मोहक आवाज़ का जादू भारतीय दर्शकों पर हमेशा छाया रहा।1939 में बाल कलाकार के रूप में उन्होंने बेबी मीना के नाम से अपना फिल्मी सफ़र शुरू किया। नायिका के रूप में 1949 की 'वीर घटोत्कच' उनकी पहली फिल्म थी, लेकिन उन्हें मक़बूलियत हासिल हुई विमल राय की फिल्म 'परिणीता से। 33 साल लम्बे फिल्म कैरियर में उनकी कुछ कालजयी फ़िल्में हैं - परिणीता, दो बीघा ज़मीन, फुटपाथ, एक ही रास्ता, शारदा, बैजू बावरा, दिल अपना और प्रीत पराई, कोहिनूर, आज़ाद, चार दिल चार राहें, प्यार का सागर, बहू बेगम, मैं चुप रहूंगी, दिल एक मंदिर, आरती, चित्रलेखा, साहब बीवी गुलाम, सांझ और सवेरा, मंझली दीदी, भींगी रात, नूरज़हां, काजल, फूल और पत्थर, पाकीज़ा, मेरे अपने और गोमती के किनारे। मीना कुमारी मशहूर फिल्मकार कमाल अमरोही के साथ अपने असफल दाम्पत्य और तब के संघर्षशील अभिनेता धर्मेन्द्र के साथ अपने अधूरे प्रेम संबंध की वज़ह से भी हमेशा चर्चा में रहीं। उनकी बेपनाह भावुकता ने उन्हें नशे की दुनिया में भटकाया, लेकिन उनकी शायरी ने उन्हें मुक्ति भी दी। उन्होंने अपनी पचीस निजी डायरियों में अपनी संवेदनाओं को शब्द दिए थे जिन्हें उनकी वसीयत के मुताबिक़ फिल्मकार और शायर गुलज़ार ने संकलित और प्रकाशित कराया। मीना कुमारी की पुण्यतिथि (31 मार्च) पर खिराज़े अकीदत उन्ही की एक ग़ज़ल के साथ !
